Criminal law
Criminal law is a system of legal regulations that govern public relationships originating from the commitment of crimes. The Bulgarian criminal law is codified in the Criminal Code of the Republic of Bulgaria. It is aimed at protecting individuals, civil rights and generally established national legal order against illegal violations. To this end, the Criminal Code determines which socially-dangerous acts are crimes and what punishments they are subject to.
Criminal law comprises three legal branches (sectors) – substantive criminal law, penal and procedural law and penal and executory law.
